The Jawa motorcycle company was founded by Czech arms manufacturer Zbrojovka Ing. Frantisek Janecek in 1929. Starting in 1927, Janecek's Czechoslovakian factory have been licensed to create "Wanderer" brand motorcycles to have an automotive company named Winklhofer & Jaenicke (later known to as "Wanderer") situated in Chemnitz (also known as Sask‡ Kamenice, or Karl-Marx-Stadt), East Germany.
When Winklhofer & Jaenicke stopped manufacture of their Wanderer motorcycle line, Janecek started their own company, mixing (JA)necek and (WA)nderer to create the title "JAWA."
The very first production Jawa motorcycle, the JAWA Rump‡l, was introduced in the Prague Motor and Motor Bike Show in 1929. The Rump‡l would be a four-stoke 498cc OHV single having a three-speed gearbox, trailing link front fork, rigid rear finish, and fire-engine red-colored fresh paint plan that grew to become a signature color for that marque.
